About This Destination
Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its unique tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior seen in only a few places in the world. The park stretches along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, with the alkaline lake covering about 70% of the park's area. The lake attracts enormous flocks of flamingos and over 400 species of birds have been recorded. The groundwater forests along the lake shore are home to troops of baboons, blue monkeys, and vervet monkeys. Despite its relatively small size, the park offers incredible biodiversity in a compact area, from lush groundwater forests to open grasslands.
Year-round. November-April for flamingos and migratory birds. June-October for dry season wildlife concentration.
