About This Experience
Approaches from the North (near Kenyan border). It is drier and less crowded. The descent follows the Marangu route.
Day 1Nalemoru Gate to Simba Camp
Through pine/mountain forest. Altitude: 1,990m to 2,625m.
Day 2Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
Mawenzi views. Altitude: 2,625m to 3,630m.
Day 3Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Hut
Scenic camp beneath Mawenzi. Altitude: 3,630m to 4,310m.
Day 4Mawenzi Tarn Hut to Kibo Hut
Crossing the Saddle. Altitude: 4,310m to 4,700m.
Day 5Summit Day: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), descent to Horombo Hut (3,700m).
Day 6Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Descent to Marangu Gate (1,860m). Transfer to Arusha.
