About This Destination
Tarangire National Park has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside of the Serengeti ecosystem. The park is famous for its large elephant herds - up to 300 elephants gather along the Tarangire River during the dry season. The landscape is dotted with iconic ancient baobab trees, some thousands of years old. The park is home to unique dry-country antelope species like the Oryx and gerenuk that are not found in other northern Tanzania parks. With over 550 recorded bird species, it is also a paradise for bird watchers. The Tarangire River, which flows through the park year-round, is the lifeblood of the ecosystem, drawing animals from far and wide during the dry months.
June-October for best wildlife concentration along the river. November-May for bird watching and green season.
