
About This Experience
The 'Coca-Cola Route' - the oldest and most well-established route. The only route with hut accommodation (dormitory style) rather than tents. The shortest route to the summit.
Hike through verdant tropical rainforest, home to blue monkeys and colobus monkeys. The trail is well-maintained and shaded. Altitude: 1,860m to 2,700m. 3-4 hours, 8km. Meals: L, D.
Heathland zone. Altitude: 2,700m to 3,700m. 5-6 hours, 12km.
Alpine desert. Altitude: 3,700m to 4,700m. 5-6 hours, 9km.
Summit attempt begins around midnight. The final push is across scree and volcanic ash under starlight. Reach Gilman's Point (5,681m) on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend to Horombo Hut for rest. 6-8 hours ascent, 4-5 hours descent.
Descent through all climate zones. Transfer to Arusha. 4-5 hours, 20km.
