Arusha National Park

Gateway to Safari Country - Mount Meru and Momela Lakes

National Park

About This Destination

Arusha National Park is the closest park to Arusha town and features the stunning Mount Meru, Africa's fifth-tallest peak at 4,566 meters. The park encompasses three distinct areas: the Ngurdoto Crater (a mini Ngorongoro), the Momela Lakes with their varying mineral colors, and the highland forests of Mount Meru. The park is one of the best places to see black-and-white colobus monkeys and is home to leopards, spotted hyenas, buffalo, and over 400 species of birds. Walking safaris and canoe trips on the Momela Lakes offer a more intimate wildlife experience than the larger parks.

Best Time to Visit

Year-round. June-February for Mount Meru climbing. Best for a day trip combined with other safari destinations.
